Excitement as the excellent adventure finally gets underway - and how to keep tabs on the boys' progress..!

19.7.08. Well, it's been a long time coming, but the day is finally here. Yes, Ed and I are off to Mongolia! In just a few hours' time, we shall be departing from Hyde Park in London along with all the other teams taking part in the rally - and naturally, excitement is at fever pitch. Saying that, I actually have a bit of driving to do between now and then - as I'm actually still in Nottingham with our car.
The burgundy beast is now packed to the gills with all of our gear - everything from our camping gear, through to three Pot Noodles touchingly donated to us by one of Ed's friends, to ensure we don't starve on our trip! Ed, meanwhile, is already down in London ready, having decided to bid farewell to his wife Claire by treating her to a night in a top-class hotel just a stone's throw from Hyde Park. So what's the plan then for after we set off? Well, part of the whole ethos of our adventure is that we don't want it to be TOO planned - after all, being spontaneous and taking opportunities to go off-piste whenever the fancy takes us is what's going to make this trip fun. At least that's our excuse anyway for being what some people might regard as slightly ill-prepared! Roughly speaking though, we should be keeping to a schedule vaguely along the following lines... Saturday 19th July - Leave London, get ferry to France, and drive through Europe through the night. Sunday 20th July - Arrive in Germany and take the car for a spin around the Nurburgring.
